Hanna Joseph (“Joe” as many called him) built this place in the early 60’s. It was an authentic car hop which his wife named the “Robin Hood” Drive-In Restaurant. Together, they served diner and fast food fare, such as hot dogs – “10 for a Dollar” – to the community, until Joe got itchy and moved on to another, slightly bigger project: building the Leicester Drive-In Theatre next door. Although the restaurant building went on to live many different lives over the years, and Joe moved on to many other projects, it never lost its character.
In the fall of 2016, Mrs. Joseph and daughter Maria Hanna Joseph decided to restore and re-open the old Robin Hood, and breathe life back into the little corner of Americana Joe created 50+ years ago. It was essential that it remain true to his original design as much as practicable, in form and service. The style was more than just a trend or genre to Joe, as he loved America so much. It embodied the enthusiasm and appreciation he had for all that America offered everyone. Likewise, it was the beginning of many, many happy endeavors Joe embraced as fortune in and of itself: “America, the land of opportunity.”
Although he passed just weeks before this re-opening, he is an inseparable part of it all.
